Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate basic knowledge of the general principles of employment law and how these relate to organizational objectives.
  2. Locate major federal and state employment laws and regulations and discuss their specific implications in the workplace.
  3. Use common law concepts to explain under what circumstances employment relationships begin and end.
  4. Recognize situations having legal repercussions as they relate to specific federal and state employment laws.
  5. Describe the role of federal and state oversight agencies in regulating employee and employer relations.
  6. Examine employment materials (e.g., employment contracts, employment applications, employee handbooks, and non-compete agreements) for legal implications and revise to meet legal requirements and organizational goals.
  7. Analyze how major federal and state statutes and regulations govern labor-management relations.
