PNUR 154 Medical Surgical Nursing I

In this course students will learn about medical and surgical conditions of the musculoskeletal and renal system including fluid and electrolyte disorders. Students will integrate the knowledge of basic sciences to the understanding of disease processes, clinical manifestations, diagnostic tests and pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments of the discussed disorders.

Outcomes

  1. Using critical thinking and clinical judgement, describe the pathophysiology/ physiology, etiology, normal and abnormal findings while caring for a client with variety of medical and surgical conditions.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the PN role in creating a healing environment for patients receiving care in a variety of health care settings and across the lifespan.
  3. Describe principles of safety, patient-centered care and health promotion while caring for patients with medical surgical disorders in various clinical settings.
  4. Describe the effects of culture, socioeconomics, race and religion on health across the lifespan.
  5. Describe ethical and legal considerations when caring for clients with varies medical and surgical conditions across the lifespan.
