Professional Improvement Units

Through staff development activities, Bates offers a variety of non-credit staff and instructor improvement courses. Staff and student participation in these courses may be recognized with Professional Improvement Units (PlUs) based on a standardized ratio: 10 clock-hours of instruction equals one PIU. Documentation of student participation may be made in letter or certificate form and will list the student's name, course of study, and the number of PlUs awarded. Documentation provided to the student must be signed by the program administrator/manager.
