The course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner.   1. Describe and practice the principles of infection control and standard precautions for all patients.
  2. Explain the basic components of an emergency medical system.
  3. Perform an initial assessment on all patients, obtain vital signs, and conduct a focused history and physical exam for signs of illness and/or injury.
