CMST& 240 Culture & Diversity in Health Care

This course explores the role of culture in health care. Special attention will be given to the number of ways that culture both impedes as well as facilitates treatment. In order to achieve this, diverse approaches to healthcare will be introduced and students will be encouraged to examine their biases stemming from cultural influences. Ample opportunities will be given throughout the course to practice, refine, and adopt specific communication skills and strategies in order to work with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
