TRON 124 Pneumatics and Hydraulics

Hydraulics is the process of using fluid to transmit energy, as does the power steering system in an automobile, while Pneumatics employes air, as do the tools one connects to an air compressor. Students will use the basic principles of hydraulics to perform calculations related to pressure and force, and will build hydraulic circuits to demonstrate these principles.

  1. State the relationship between force, pressure, and area.
  2. Explain the process of regeneration.
  3. Using Industry-relevant equipment and to industry standards of time and accuracy, apply regeration to equalize cylinder extension and retraction speeds.
  4. Describe hazards associated with the use of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  5. Demonstrate situational awareness to protect themselves and the producct when operating fluid systems. Describe basic safety precautions that should be taken.
  6. Exlain how air used to transmit energy must be prepared.
  7. Define the gas laws that affect temperature, volume and pressue and how they are measured.
  8. To industry standards of time and accuracy, apply the Universal Gas Law to determine unknown parameters.
  9. Using industry-relevant equipment and to industry standards of time and accuracy, perform the fundamental methods of installing, cleaning, replacing, testing, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance regarding fluid power components in pneumatic and hydraulic systems
